Looking for Loons, (Jennifer Lloyd auth., Kirsti Anne Wakelin illust., published by Simply Read Books) won’t be out until the fall, but was reviewed from the proofs in the Quill & Quire.
excerpt from the Q&Q, July/August 2007, page 68:
Vancouver illustrator Kirsti Anne Wakelin’s luminous watercolours are an excellent match for the natural beauty of the tale’s setting. Glowing reds, oranges, and golds fill the double-page spreads.
-Jessica Kelley, a youth librarian from Vancouver living in Fresno, California
For this and other reviews of new Canadian (and international) books – both kidlit and adult – pick up a July/August copy of the Quill & Quire, Canada’s Magazine of Book News and Reviews.
EDIT: the review is now up on the Quill & Quire site.
….
Hello Jennifer!
nice to see you here 🙂
I think *cough* Chapters *cough* might have copies of the Quill & Quire – if not, I think that the Q&Q eventually posts the reviews on their website once the next issue comes out. I’ll link to it here when I see it online.
I’m glad I had the opportunity to illustrate your book – your story gave me a chance to draw and paint my favourite things – animals.
I don’t know the exact release date of the book but I believe it’s to be this fall. I’m looking forward to seeing the final thing as well!
Hi Kirsti,
I came across your blog when I was searching for news on Looking for Loons.
Have you seen the review in the Quill and Quire? I tried a few stores but so far haven’t been able to get a copy. Was it a good review?
I haven’t seen the final edit yet of the book but the illustrations Dimiter sent me were wonderful! I couldn’t believe how you had captured the story so beautifully!
Do you know the release date of the book? I am very excited to see how the book turns out.
Jennifer
